Is He REALLY Capable? Domestic Violence-Related Homicide

What happens when your life is being threatened and the community around you thinks that a "nice guy" is not capable of actually physically or emotionally harming someone? What happens when all of the signs are there....preventable signs....and no one listens? Unfortunately, this is happening more and more. Innocent individuals lives are taken when no one believes "He IS capable!".
Domestic Violence is taken too lightly. Individuals fear to get involved or immediately assume you have done something to deserve what is happening to you. Everyone makes a poor choice in your life at sometime although it is very scary to know one poor choice...one poor judgement in someones character....could be your last. It will change your life forever.
I heard comments in the courtroom like..."Its Friday attorneys... make it quick!" To be standing before a judge, asking for help, fearing for your life..., and hearing a comment like this is devastating. You feel a rush of fear even worse than you felt on the street. You begin to realize that you are not taken seriously and you begin to live only to survive. You feel like there is no one to protect you. I have lost my ability to have a voice....a chance at a normal way of life......Your death comes in one way or another.....Your abuser believes he has won.......
I do not have the answers as to why the system is this way. I suppose that at some point someone created this model and now much compassion is lost. I pray for an answer daily....I pray that some day we all can help make a change....save a life.
Reality is this....reality is painful....although what is painful can make you stronger!!!

Psalm 37
Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.

Trust in the lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture, Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this; He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-it only leads to evil, For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace.

The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked for He knows their day is coming.

The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. But their swords pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.........

Domestic violence-related homicide is preventable – this is the best reason to invest resources to better understand
the complexities of domestic violence and the risks to victims preceding the fatalities so that more effective intervention and
prevention strategies can be implemented in more coordinated and cooperative ways across agencies. 2
